POSTCARD FROM CHRISTMASTOWN - Dec 2006

Nothing says christmas like a radio active front garden. This fantastic spectacle is in Katoomba, Australia, but I imagine it can also be seen from space if you happen to be passing through there. It celebrates every aspect of christmas from a twinkling Baby Jesus in a manger complete with neon wisemen, to the fairylit Santa and Mrs Clause.

Note Mrs Clause is waving but Santa himself is not so friendly. Perhaps he’s too busy to wave, perhaps he’s tired, perhaps he lost his arms in a nasty sleigh accident, we just don’t know. Only 6 of the reindeer can be seen which seems to lend weight to the nasty sleigh accident theory. Frosty the snowman is there in a bowler hat and if you look behind Frosty, you will see the lesser known snowman often referred to as ‘Scarfy but no Facey the Snowman’- a slightly scary creature, not particularly popular with children, thus there has never been a carol written to celebrate his existence.

Finally the well known surrealist artwork “Elf Reclining in Snowman’s Lap” has been borrowed from the Guggenheim Museum to help lend a sophisticated and cultured edge to the display. Up front and centre of course, there is the universal symbol of christmas around the world, 2 glow in the dark toadstools. Merry Christmas!

POSTCARD FROM MINGARA - April 2005

Ahh Mingara, situated on the beautiful central coast of New South Wales, home to some of the world's finest beaches and the largest population of teen mothers in Australia.

People say there must be something in the water up there...and you know what, it's probably nude teenagers copulating! Nothing better than finishing off a good night out by getting yourself knocked up. After all a baby's not just for Christmas, it's also a great way to try and hang onto a boyfriend who's threatening to leave you.

POSTCARD FROM TOKYO - March 2005

Tokyo is brilliant. The Japanese were right to try and conquer the world, we would all be harder working, more considerate, better dressed people had they been successful. Although fruit would be very expensive. Especially blueberries. 42 dollars a punnet. Which is a lot to pay for a fruit which can so often disappoint. In any country it's rare to get a whole punnet of firm, sweet, juicy berries. More often you get those flabby, mealy blueberries with poor structural integrity and very low juice content. My point is, visit Tokyo, but for the love of Christ don't buy the blueberries. At that price, they're simply not worth the risk.
